KEEP ON RUNNING

Cadets and staff from 2461 (Sawston) Squadron, Air Cadets have support the recently held annual Sawston Fun Run.

The event is the largest community event of its kind in Cambridgeshire and over the years it has raised over £368,000 for local charities and groups.  The 4.7 mile route started and finished at Sawston Village College and includes most of the village.

During the event cadets ran a much needed water station and at the finish line a dedicated team from the Squadron provided refreshments for runners and spectators.  Cadets and staff also manned a recruitment stand to promote the Air Cadet Organisation in the local community occasionally assisted by Ryan Taylor and Amy Carpenter from Star Radio.

Cadets prepare for the runners!

This years winner was Andrew Mynott from the Saffron Striders running club with a time of 25mins 4secs - one of the quickest in the 28 years the 7.5km event has been running.  He crossed the line with a forward roll in celebration!

Cadet Lewis Ritchie said “It was great fun helping at this years fun run, hopefully people will see the Squadron in action and look at joining us.”

Adult NCO, Sergeant Sue Jestice added “The Sawston Fun Run has supported the Squadron for a number of years and the Squadron always enjoys helping them out in return.”
